Dong Hoi explored
Dong Hoi is lcoated at the coast, in Quang Binh province, the narrowest part of Vietnam. It's only about 50 km as the crow flies to the Laotian border. Along the border the land is hilly. Along the coast it's flat, but has extensive dune areas, with impressive sand hills. As can be expected, fisheries play an important role in Dong Hoi's economy, and along the coast fishing boats dot the coastline. Ricefields dominate the landscape. But there a couple of localities that have ricefields that are neglected or temporarily not used, in any case seemingly not attended to. Both ricefields and dune areas have a surprising, if unstated, diversity of life. Much original diversity has gone of course. It used to be forest, even along the coast. Nevertheless, one can still find interesting species, especially during bird migration in autumn and spring.
